Faculty Travel
Assistance Grants Program
The travel assistance grants program provides
regular faculty (as defined in the Faculty Handbook Section
3.1.1) with matching funds to help defray the cost of international
travel or domestic travel to participate in a national meeting
(i.e., present a paper or, organize and/or chair a session)
or to promote or support the development of new or expanded
research programs at OU. A faculty member is eligible to receive
a travel award for one trip per fiscal year. Faculty must request
funding in advance of the expected travel and use these funds
within the fiscal year in which they are awarded. The travel
assistance program provides one-third of the total travel cost,
up to a maximum of $1,200. Thus, the maximum travel costs covered
is $3,600.
Special requests (up to full funding) will be considered for
a faculty member who will be meeting with potential research
sponsors. In these cases, a detailed budget, a detailed itinerary,
including the names and titles of the individuals with whom
the faculty member will meet, and an indication of the potential
funding level are required.
To make a request, a memorandum outlining the travel plans,
the costs, and the reasons for travel must be submitted to the
VPR (Robertson Hall, Room 100). It is essential that this memorandum
clearly and in detail state how the travel will promote or support
the development of new or expanded research/creative activity
programs at OU. All requests should outline the sources of the
other required travel funds and should be endorsed by the departmental
chair/director and dean. Requests for travel funds to consult
with external funding agencies should indicate the potential
level of funding by these agencies.
