Centers Program
Funds will be made available from the Office
of the Vice President for Research to help initiate interdisciplinary
research centers that have the demonstrated potential to succeed.
It is emphasized that no center will be considered for funding
without a significant real-dollar match from the departments
involved and/or the appropriate deans. Also, before developing
a proposal, the principal investigators should discuss their
proposed center with the Office of the Vice President for Research.
To be considered for funding, a proposal
for a center must comply with the University guidelines that
follow:
Development of Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Projects
and Programs
(For Arts and Humanities)
Faculty from several departments interested
in developing multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary projects
should submit a copy of their proposal to the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR), (Robertson Hall, Room 100). The proposal
should include a development plan with the following information:
1. A document that clearly outlines the project/program and
how it coincides with OU's strategic plan.
2. The faculty members involved in the project/program;
the role each of them will play; and a vita for each faculty
member.
3. Potential external sources (by program
and agency) of continuing support including probable level of
support.
4. Detailed budget with justification for
each line item.
Interdisciplinary Centers Program
(For Science and Engineering)
The Interdisciplinary Centers Program funds
centers that are compatible with OU's Strategic Plan and areas
of national/regional need. Specific projects to be funded under
this program will require two or more participating Norman Campus
disciplines; must involve a significant level of research and
graduate education; and must demonstrate (with a "business
plan") an ability to secure significant external funding
in a twelve-month period and to achieve self-sufficient operation.
The Center's endeavors should address topics
of critical interest to federal funding agencies and/or industrial/commercial
interests in the generic areas which are compatible with OU's
strategic plans, national and/or regional needs, and which support
graduate education.
Any group interested in applying for Center
funding should submit a copy of the proposal to the VPR, Robertson
Hall, Room 100. The proposal should include the following information:
1. Five to ten page document that clearly
outlines the center concept and how the center is compatible
with OU's Strategic Plan and areas of national/ regional need.
2. The faculty members involved in the center;
the role each of them will play; and a vita for each faculty
member.
3. Potential external sources (by program
and agency) of continuing support including probable level of
support.
4. Detailed budget with justification for
each line item.
