Investigator (PI) and the Co-principal investigator(s)
(Co-PI) (if any) are involved. Involves detailed discussion

SPONSOR
|
A sponsor may be a government agency (international,
federal, state, or local), foundation, a private corporation,
or a nonprofit organization such as another educational
institution. Sponsors can have different requirements, forms,
types of proposals, type and terms of award (grant, contract,
cooperative agreement, etc.) and allowable costs. |

SPONSORED PROJECT
|
A funded project. Involves an award or agreement
which binds the University to a scope of work that is specified
to a substantial level of detail or required deliverables.
A line item budget is involved. Financial reports are required
and/or the expenses are subject to audit. A period of performance
is usually specified. Unused funds must be returned to the
sponsor. The agreement provides for the disposition of either
tangible or intangible properties (including equipment,
records, formal activity reports, theses or dissertations,
data rights, copyrights, inventions, and research-related
materials).

SPONSORED RESEARCH
INCENTIVE (SRI)
|
The SRI program was established as an incentive
for departments to encourage their faculty to seek external
support for their research/creative activities.
The University policy on SRI funds at this time is: An
amount equal to 20% of the indirect cost generated by
the University's research enterprise is distributed to
the generating areas in the proportion of 90% to the department
or unit and 10% to the appropriate dean/administrator.
The amount of indirect costs used to determine each year's
distribution is based on the indirect cost generated the
preceding year. Therefore, the indirect costs realized
during fiscal year 2004 have been used to determine the
fiscal year 2005 distribution. As a general rule, the
funds are distributed during the first quarter of the
fiscal year. Additionally, qualifying grants/contracts
from approved interdisciplinary research centers are eligible
for an extra allocation. This SRI program also amounts
to 20% and is distributed directly to the individual interdisciplinary
research centers.
For additional SRI/Double SRI information, please contact
the Vice President for Research at 325-3806 |

|
A written agreement with a third party for
the acquisition of property or services or the conduct of

beyond the initially funded project period. The renewal
application bears some relationship to the initial project.
A renewal proposal can be either a non-competing or competing
request for additional support for a project period that
is about to expire. From the sponsor's viewpoint, the competing
renewal has the same proposal status as the new proposal
and will be sent out for panel or peer review in competition
with other competing continuations, competing supplemental,
and new applications for funds.
|
|
REVISION APPLICATION
