IN-KIND CONTRIBUTION Value of non-cash contribution.

INDIRECT COSTS (IDC)

 

 

Costs associated with conduct of sponsored projects that cannot be clearly identified and cannot be clearly accounted for on an individual project basis. The University has a predetermined rate (rate established for certain period with no carry forward provision) set by their cognizant federal audit agency.

INTANGIBLE PROPERTY

Trademarks, copyrights, patents, loan notes & lease agreements.

MATCHING

 

 

 

 

Cost of projects not paid by the agency; Major institutional commitment to the project. Primarily takes place on equipment grants, but others as well. Usually ranges from 1/3 to 1/2 of total costs and generally is cash (some sponsors allow in-kind salary, fringe benefits, and indirect costs). University match requires approval from source. Third-party source (non-University) is sometimes used.

MISCONDUCT IN SCIENCE

 



Falsification, fabrication, plagiarism, or other practices that seriously deviate from those that are commonly accepted within the scientific community for proposing, conducting or reporting research. It does not include honest error or honest differences in interpretations or judgments of data.

MODIFIED TOTAL DIRECT COSTS (MTDC)

 

 

All direct costs of research less any exclusions as defined by the rate agreement (i.e., equipment, subcontract costs in excess of $25,000 for each total subcontract, tuition and fees, stipends, and patient care costs). This is the base accepted by the cognizant federal audit agency from which to compute the University's IDC.
NONCOMPETING CONTINUATION


The noncompeting continuation proposal is a request for additional funding for a second or subsequent budget period within a previously approved project period.

NEW APPLICATION

 

A request for financial or direct assistance for a project or program not currently receiving financial assistance from the sponsor.
NO-COST EXTENSION

 

 

 

Request to extend the final budget period of a project period, or any other budget period where justified, for usually up to 12 months (period of time may vary with agency) beyond the ending date of the budget period as shown on the award. Request for a no-cost extension must be in writing, stating the reason for the extension, and the additional time and funds, if any, being requested, and must be made before the expiration of the currently active budget period.

NOTICE OF GRANT AWARD



The legally binding document that notifies the recipient and others that a grant or cooperative agreement has been made, contains or references all terms of the award, and documents the obligation of funds.

OTHER SPONSORED ACTIVITIES






Programs and projects financed by Federal and non-Federal agencies and organizations which involve the performance of work other than instructional and organized research. Examples of such programs and projects are health service projects and community service programs. However, when any of these activities are undertaken by the institution without outside support, they may be classified as other institutional activities (per OMB Circular A-21).
OUTLAYS OR EXPENDITURES Charges made either on a cost or accrual basis.
