An institute/center is a single or multi-disciplinary unit organized to conduct
education, research, and/or service activities. To be recognized as a center,
a program plan must be approved by the appropriate dean (if applicable), the
Provost, the Vice President for Research, Deans' Council, the Budget Office,
and the President of the University. After the President approves the establishment
of the insititute/center, a report will be provided to the Board of Regents.
DOUBLE SPONSORED RESEARCH INCENTIVE (DSRI)
PROGRAM FOR RECOGNIZED CENTERS:
To receive the Double Sponsored Research Incentive (DSRI) allocation,
the proposal must meet basic criteria:
- The proposal must be submitted by an approved
center.
- The proposal must be submitted from the Center, not just through the
Center.
- The proposal must be inter/multi disciplinary and, thus, requires co-PIs
from at least two distinctively different research disciplines in two
or more academic departments usually representing different colleges.
- The proposal must include recovery of full indirect costs at the University's
approved rate.
- The complete narrative must be available for review by the Vice President
for Research.
- The proposal does not include cost match from the Vice President for
Research.
- The proposal must be approved for double SRI by the Senior Vice President
and Provost and the Vice President for Research prior to submission
of the proposal to the external funding source.
The principal investigator requesting double SRI is responsible for completing
a double SRI form and forwarding
it to Proposal Services for attachment to the "pink sheet"
routing approval form.

TIPS FOR CLEARLY INDICATING A CENTER PROPOSAL:
- The cover page or title page states that the proposal is submitted by
the Center--give name and address. The PIs are listed below the center's
information,
- The abstract should state something about the center,
- The narrative should show that the center is involved and provide an
explanation of the inter/multi disciplinary aspect and involvement,
- The budget narrative should indicate that this is a center proposal,
i.e. some of the costs are center related.
